A ship in rough water, a wall of fog, and then Godzilla towering out of it like a bad omen; the Karl Fitzgerald piece for Godzilla Minus One goes for scale in a way that feels almost maritime painting first, kaiju print second. The monster is mostly mass and atmosphere, with the dorsal plates and tail barely separating from the haze, while the tiny smoking boat at the bottom sells just how hopeless the scene is. Set beside it, Drew Wise is back with more Godzilla work for BNG. He takes Shin Godzilla in the opposite direction: flat black against a violent red silhouette, all jagged back plates, drips, and an open-mouthed profile that turns the creature into something closer to a warning symbol than a character study. Even the title treatment looks smeared and raw, which fits that version of Godzilla perfectly. It’s a smart pairing for Bottleneck Gallery this afternoon, not just because both prints come from two major modern eras of the franchise, but because Fitzgerald and Wise approach the same monster from entirely different angles; one with depth, weather, and looming distance, the other with graphic reduction and pure threat. This is a good split between dread on the open sea and neon nightmare minimalism, on sale Today at 12PM ET.
