Bottleneck Gallery’s drop this afternoon pairs two ongoing series in a way that feels oddly natural: Peter Strain returns, this time arriving at Twin Peaks, with another smart piece for BNG. Meanwhile Anthony Petrie adds Creature from the Black Lagoon to his Universal Monsters set after earlier turns on The Bride of Frankenstein and Frankenstein. Strain’s print is built around a side-profile silhouette rendered as a cross section of wood, all concentric growth rings and long vertical cracks, it’s a simple idea on paper, but the execution gives it that specifically Twin Peaks mix of rustic calm and lurking wrongness. Petrie goes the opposite direction, packing his Creature poster with dense underwater life as the Gill-man emerges from reeds, coral, fish, bubbles, and dark green-blue murk. His domed head and outstretched claw pushing through the lagoon as if he’s part of the ecosystem rather than just hiding in it. The title block sits low in the image and nearly disappears into the plant life, which suits the whole design, everything feels submerged, crowded, and a little hard to escape. Two very different approaches, but both artists know exactly how to build a world around these properties, and both prints go on sale this afternoon via Bottleneck Gallery.
