Tuesday we are getting fresh alternative movie posters from Mutant and Bottleneck Gallery, first up we’ll tackle Mutant’s new offering by renown illustrator Akiko Stehrenberger from the film, American Fiction. American Fiction, released in 2023, is a comedic-drama directed and written by Cord Jefferson in his first outing as a director. The film is adapted from Percival Everett’s 2001 book Erasure and centers around a novelist, who writes a satirical manuscript that lampoons the clichéd representations of “Black” literature. However, it is interpreted as a serious work, leading to its publication, widespread success, and critical acclaim. The artwork by Stehrenberger is on point with the vintage typewriter representing the themes of storytelling from the film. Love that the title is in quotes as well.
