Elvisdead returns to the world of John Carpenter this afternoon with a chilling new print for The Thing, widely considered the director’s greatest work.
Having already created stellar prints for Escape from New York and They Live, Elvisdead now offers his take on the cryptic final moments of The Thing, imagining MacReady alone in the snow, with a clue to the film’s lingering question: Who was The Thing?
The piece is classic Elvisdead, meticulously crafted in his signature black-and-white style, plenty of texture, atmosphere, and story details. Every element pulls you into the scene, including some of the credits and title block, which are wonderfully integrated into the snowscape itself.
It’s a more limited drop than most and the cost is high, but fans of the film and of Elvisdead’s growing Carpenter collection probably don’t want to miss it, when it goes on sale today at 12PM ET via Elvisdead’s website.
