The Substance by Akiko Stehrenberger

On Saturday, Mutant and CODA teamed up for an uncommon weekend drop featuring artwork by Akiko Stehrenberger from the film The Substance. If you aren’t familiar, the film centers around aging and society’s definition of beauty and the expectations it places on women. To that vein, Akiko Stehrenberger, who has a knack for creating incredible, smart artwork has drawn from the My Wife and My Mother-in-Law artwork that was originally published in the late 19th century. It’s a perfect visual metaphor for the film as there are many shared themes between the the two, including duality of self, beauty and ageism. As mentions these dropped on Saturday on both the CODA and Mutant sites. The artwork is virtually the same, with the pink CODA version have a spot varnish treatment on the title, representing the newness that is Sue. That is a great touch. At time of post there are still versions of both available, so head on over to the Mutant and CODA sites to grab one.
