The Man in the White Suit by Alfred Reginald Thomson & S. John Woods

CODA continues its celebration of classic cinema with the release of a restored poster for The Man in the White Suit, originally created by Alfred Reginald Thomson with direction from S. John Woods. This new edition of the poster has been carefully restored by Phantom City Creative, a name familiar to fans of alternative movie posters. Their work here preserves the charm and energy of Thomson’s original design, bringing fresh life to the bold red background and the striking white suit worn by Alec Guinness’s character as he dashes across the frame.

Released in 1951 by Ealing Studios, The Man in the White Suit is a standout in the studio’s long run of influential British comedies. Directed by Alexander Mackendrick (who would later helm The Ladykillers and Sweet Smell of Success), the film stars Alec Guinness as a well-meaning chemist who invents a fabric that never wears out—and instantly becomes a target for both big business and labor unions.

The film is remembered for how it mixes humor with pointed commentary on innovation, progress, and class. It’s one of the key titles that helped define the Ealing Studios brand of comedy: witty, socially aware, and distinctly British. This release from CODA gives collectors a rare chance to own a piece of that history, now lovingly restored and reproduced for modern audiences. The Man in the White Suit poster goes on sale May 23rd at 1PM ET.
