A handful of strong releases quietly hit the scene on August 1st from CODA, part of the SDCC event this year, but due to a last-minute announcement from CODA, the info came in just before launch, which meant we didn’t have time to get a post up before some of these sold out. Still, a few key pieces are thankfully still available for collector
Tyler Stout’s Jaws was one of the headliners, originally part of the Red Bank, New Jersey show we covered here. It’s classic Stout: chaotic, layered, and instantly recognizable. The SDCC variant was part of the CODA drop as well, and as expected, these sold out almost instantly.
Apocalypse Now by Hans Woody was another standout from the SDCC selections. The main edition and SDCC variant both channel the heavy dread of the film, with Brando’s shadowy face looming over the jungle and a red-scorched skyline filled with choppers. These are still available via CODA.
Sachin Teng’s The Slap, also from Jaws, takes a different approach, pulling from one of the film’s more human moments rather than its creature-feature core. It’s stylized and emotionally pointed, which feels right for Teng’s sensibility.
The same goes for Martin Ansin’s Deadpool & Wolverine Blacklight Flocked Variant, which adds a UV-reactive twist to the already bold theatrical design. We covered the original version, and this variant cranks things up visually. Still up on the CODA site and well worth grabbing if you missed the first round.
All told, this batch felt a little under the radar due to the last-minute CODA announcement, but the quality is there across the board, and it’s refreshing to see at least some of the better pieces sticking around for those who actually want to hang them.
