Aparajito by Anne Benjamin

Anne Benjamin returns to Satyajit Ray’s acclaimed Apu Trilogy with a new poster for Aparajito, released by Black Dragon Press. This follows her 2022 artwork for Pather Panchali and continues her soft, thoughtful style that fits Ray’s storytelling well. The poster shows a woman standing in a doorway, looking out at a calm but changing landscape—fireflies float through the air, and a train moves along the horizon. There are two versions of the print: one in English and one in Bengali, both using warm, earthy tones that reflect the tone of the film.

Aparajito, released in 1956, is the second film in Ray’s Apu Trilogy. It tells the story of Apu as he leaves home and starts to explore the wider world. The film has received wide praise over the years and is often seen as one of Ray’s most important works. Benjamin’s work continues to pair nicely with these films. It’s quiet, emotional, and respectful of the material. If you picked up her Pather Panchali poster, this one is a natural follow-up. Look for it on the Black Dragon Press site on May 23rd at 12PM ET.
