This year the Louxor Cinema in Paris, France is celebrating its 100th year in existence. It’s pretty remarkable when you think about it. To be around that long you have to be able to reinvent yourself and the Louxor has done just that. It’s unique Egyptian facade helped to distinguish itself from competitors when it was established in 1921. In the early 80’s it ceased being a movie theatre and was briefly transformed into a nightclub, closing down in 1988. Only to reopen in 2013 again as a full fledged theatre. It’s a building with a unique history that has stood the test of time.
So who better to get then Laurent Duriux to give this historic building a proper celebratory poster. Along with Belgian comic book artist François Schuiten, the two have created this fantastic artwork to pay homage to the iconic building. The 24″ x 36″ piece will be released in two versions. The regular version is to be released by Atlantic 12 and will be a 12 color screen print with an edition of 300 costing around $117. The variant is a 14 color screen print and will be released via Nautilus Art Prints. It will have an edition of 100 and cost roughly $175. Both prints go on sale on their respective sites tomorrow, Friday, October 29th at 1PM EST.
